Adameck opponent for August 3rd change.

Dominick Guinn  34 / 9 / 1 (23 ko's ) is the replacement opponent for the injured Tony Grano, who pulled out of the August 3rd Main Events show at the Mohegan Sun in Uncassville Conn featuring the return of Thomasz Adamek. This is the 12th fight at heavyweight for The Polish former lightheavyweight champion who's only slip up was his 2011 title opportunity against WBC Champion Vitaly Klitschko via 10th round stoppage. However he has had to struggle on occasion to grow into his heavyweight shoes, against Mike Grant , Thomasz had to literally run for his life in he final 3 minutes as the much larger mans power finally began to tell. However it's been persistence and fitness that has pulled Adameck through the trenches to his credit and his huge heart has enabled him to beat a decent list of names.... Golota, Arreola, Grant, Estrada, Cunningham, Chambers, Aguilera, Maddelone , mostly by decision, he is a talented proven world class performer who only lacks size in all honesty to win belts. 48 / 2 (28 ko's ) speaks for itself and the losses coming against former brilliant world title holders , Adameck is not to be taken lightly...   Dominick Guinn himself was at one time the Heir apparent to the throne at heavyweight in the early 2000's, he was 24 / 0 until he was handed his first loss by the rugged Monte Barrett in 2004 following impressive wins over Mike Grant and Duncan Dokiwari, you have to be a man of substance to beat Dominick who is a vicious puncher who can never be taken lightly.  Adameck and Guinn have been good friends of late and Guinn has been in camp almost every time Thomasz has prepped for a major fight.  Main events have saved the show by handing Dominick the opportunity but its a long shot for Guinn, but it's heavyweights, so never say never...  And I NEVER...  Bet against Dominick Guinn.

Saturday night at Londons Wembley Arena, Britain's heavyweight bad boy Dereck Chisora takes on unbeaten Philadelphian Malik Scott, a solid live campaigner who has been a pro since 2000. Dereck may have only had 20 fights but he is not short of championship experience having boxed for and won both the British and Commonwealth titles and only falling marginally short in a Euro title bid away from home against Rob Helenius where he dropped a controversial split earning a crack at Vitali Klitschko's WBC title in Munich in 2012. Dereck boxed out of his skin that night before marring his performance with his unforgivable antics before and after the bout. Malik has remained unbeaten for 13 years but he has not honestly stepped into World level yet and this will by far be his biggest International outing to date. Skill wise Malik is the genuine article, he has a fabulous Jab and can use it to set up a great arsenal of accurate shots on his day. The questions start for me by way of hunger, from 2004 until 2008 he scored 11 wins all by comfortable unanimous decision, and between 2008 and 2012 he took 4 years away from the ring and in a whole 36 fight career he hasn't yet faced a real live gut check until perhaps his last outing where he was unlucky to drop to a draw against young unbeaten Olympian Vyacheslav Glazkov in NJ. Chisora is not afraid of the Big Occasion and he showed loads of courage in his last big fight against Haye in 2012 before being stopped in the 5th of what was warming into a tasty little match up. Neither men are renown for being huge bangers, Del having 10 Ko's and Malik having only 12 ko's in 36 , but both are live willing potential contenders looking to open doors for themselves on Saturday. Both men are larger than life colourful characters and both like to talk a lot, hence this weeks comical war of insults to hype the event.  It's the tall rangy unbeaten untested unknown v the rugged dangerous wildcard...  It could be fun..  More to come as we near fight time.  It's a great card ..

Bob Sheridan update.

Colonel Bob Sheridan, a TV and Radio veteran who has called over 10,000 fights underwent triple bypass heart surgery on Monday night. The good word has it that everything went successfully and he is recovering so far so good. A  H.O.F. member since 2004 Bob has been a brilliant torch bearer for  boxing ever since pioneering alongside Don King and Hemdale Leisure Corporation to bring the world the live telecast of The Rumble in the Jungle from Kinshaza Zaire in 1974. Our finest wishes go out to ensure that The Colonel gets back to full health as soon as possible.

Nightmare for David Price in Thompson rematch.

Not too many people around David Price, following his shocking knockout loss to Tony Thompson last february wanted an immediate rematch, but with former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis in camp a confident Price convinced Frank Maloney to pursue Price v Thompson 2.  Here we are five months later staring headlong into uncharted waters for the Liverpool heavyweight. Lewis is however someone who should know a thing or two about avenging a damaging first loss. In 1994 Lennox had to go back to the drawing board following his own catastrophic first loss against Oliver McCall, he addressed the flaws with the help of Manny Steward and returned, not immediately but a few years later a different man to administer revenge upon his nemesis. So here we are, same venue, same tricky mountain to climb, and a chance at redemption for The Liverpool heavyweight. Halfway through round 2 Price seemed to have made the breakthrough, a short right hand dropped the southpaw Thompson who was all at sea surviving into he third session, but entering round 4 an over anxious Price was struggling with the pace and in opting to slug it out with the relatively fresh DC man looked to be playing right into his hands. Midway into the fifth a flurry of well placed shots from Thompson physically rocked Price who began to unravel, seizing the moment Thompson launched an onslaught which forced referee Marcus McDonnell to offer a count to which the stricken Price failed to respond.  A second loss is a very bitter pill to swallow in such circumstances, Thompson himself summed up David's issues quite accurately when he said " it's not a problem with David physically, it's something in is head that needs addressing ."  Lennox Lewis can't fix all of David's problems in one camp, and in hindsight an immediate rematch may not have been the best route to have taken.  This unfortunate loss leaves Price 15 / 2 (13 ko's) with a pretty long haul back in a sport where the snakes are long and the ladders are short.  Thompson however, gallant  in victory has options galore at 38 / 3 (26 ko's) a muted Tyson Fury fight may prove hugely popular on these shores, either way once again the World is his oyster.

Mark Prince, finally gets re-licenced.... Congratulations.

                                                 

It has been a long time coming but former World title challenger Mark Prince has finally proved he is  ready for action in his long awaited comeback, The over cautious board of control initially denied Mark a licence but this week I heard the brilliant news that Prince is cleared to Box as soon as everything surrounding an opponent is in place. Mark has a huge heart and is fighting for more than his own gains this time around. Marks son Kiyan was a talented footballer with Queens Park Rangers and had his whole life ahead of him until in 2006 he was savagely stabbed to death outside his school in North London..  Mark dedicated himself to spreading the word about Knife crime awareness amongst urban youths culminating in him establishing The Kiyan Prince Foundation in his tragic sons name. Mark retired with a knee injury in 1999 with an impressive record of 19 / 1 with 15 knockouts, the sole loss coming in a World title fight with the then dominant WBO light heavyweight champion Dariusz Michalczewski in his own backyard..   Mark is a young 43 and on the 4th October he intends to prove he still has what it takes to break back into contention towards where he left off 14 years ago..   Mark Prince return is currently scheduled for the York Hall on October the 4th.    Fighting for more than Glory...   Fighting for a cause...  God Bless..  I have faith.

Golovkin breaks Macklin in 3.

                                    

WBA and IBO Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin issued a warning to all concerned on Saturday by way of a third round one punch stoppage of the usually durable Matthew Macklin at Foxwoods. Golovkin pursued the overmatched  Macklin from the first bell and nothing Matthew attempted seemed to deter the Kazakh boxer.  As soon as Golovkin closed the distance down the writing was on the wall for the Irish, Brit as a single body shot completely paralysed the former two time world title challenger in round 3.  Testifying to Max Kellerman later that Golovkin was undoubtedly the hardest one punch hitter he had ever faced.  Golovkin looks to have arrived as a force in a very healthy middleweight division, with Martinez looking like a natural unification match up for the future. GGG as he is known looks like the real deal with his composed approach disguising his lethal capabilities. The relentless intensity coupled with this showing may brand Gennedy as a serious front runner for Middleweight domination.    Golovkin remains the WBA and IBO middleweight champion with this being his 14th straight ko win.    24 stoppages in 27 Wins...   Gennady Golovkin has huge marketability in the US and can enjoy many major opportunities if he continues to improve at the rate he has been.     The future is very bright. 

Deontay Wilder meets former WBO Champion Liakhovich

Unbeaten 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Deontay Wilder meets his first real live opponent on August 9th in the form of Sergei Liakhovich. Sergei beat Lamon Brewster to snare the WBO title in 2006 and lost his first defence to Shannon Briggs in the same year.  Wilder has chosen this Opponent wisely, although a decent name Sergei has since lost 4 of his last 6. Wilder was muted to have been matched with Derrick Chisora in London earlier this month but due to legal reasons was unable to fulfil the obligation after an alleged attack on a female in Las Vegas. Wilder is dangerous with strength and power but is very raw in his approach and has much to learn to compete with more seasoned pro's. Sergei last boxed in March of 2012 losing to Bryant Jennings via 9th round retirement in Brooklyn. Wilder demolished Audley Harrison inside a round in Sheffield England in March. Wilder v Liakhovich is scheduled for an unannounced site in Alabama.
