Spence dethrones Brook in fabulous battle.
Last night at Bramall lane stadium in Sheffield, IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook was dethroned by a defiant Errol Spence in a thrilling bout that saw the Texan challenger dig deep in the later rounds to stop the hometown champion.. Brook started strong, making his presence felt early, making life uncomfortable for Spence with heavy handed counterpunches.. After 6 rounds many ringsiders had Brook in a slight lead, but it was at this point that the American turned up the heat, closing the distance down and out-landing the Champion, who began to fade gradually.. By the 10th, Brook was holding on after every attack, and was eventually dropped in a bout that was steadily slipping away.. The intelligent youngster sustained the pressure into the 11th, where worsening eye damage became too much for Brook, taking a knee after obvious vision problems, only to be counted out by referee Howard Foster.. The 27 year old Spence was gracious in victory yet harsh on his own performance.. Critical for overshooting his jab in the early rounds and blaming a lack of sharpness on inactivity.. It is obvious though that Errol means business, making it known that he intends to unify, calling out names, Thurman and Pacquiao..
Devastated Brook gave high praise to Spence, stating that the Texan is probably the best fighter he'd ever faced.. The eye injury was too much to deal with when you have the hungriest, most talented fighter in the world firing at you.. Brook did however comment that he would more than likely stay at welterweight.
