In a highly anticipated grudge match, Unbeaten super lightweights, Ohara Davies and Josh Taylor backed up their pre fight verbals with an epic scrap for the WBC Silver and Commonwealth titles at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow last night.. The stylish Davies used his long rangy style to pick up early points, often sacrificing his height by reaching from a crouch, Taylor 9-0 (8 Ko's) enjoying added home advantage had to play counter puncher, making the Londoner pay with crisper punching.. In round 3 Taylor's fast hands forced the first breakthrough of the fight, a fast body attack followed by a right hand dropped Davies, a flash knockdown but a significant moment in the bout.. Davies 15-0 (12 Ko's) came back remarkably, although his well placed shots appeared to be thrown off balance, allowing Taylor to maintain his rhythm and counter comfortably.. Round 6 Saw a determined Davies look to stamp his authority on the fight, backing the Scotsman up with a Solid flurry, only to be backed up himself, the round was action packed with both men enjoying moments of success.. Going into round 7 many ringsiders had Davies ahead, although Josh's shots did appear to land more cleaner as opposed to Davies volume.. Taylor appeared the more comfortable as the anxious Londoner took chances.. Davies jab had lost its snap allowing Taylor to counter with ease. 2 minutes into the round Davies, who by now was literally stalking Taylor rather than cutting off the ring, lunged with a long left hook, completely exposing himself to a reflex right hook counter from Taylor which once again dropped Davies. This time the Essex man was distressed, rising precariously at 8, as Taylor moved in to finish, Davies appeared to turn away and wave his challenge to an end in a moment of surrender.. Josh Taylor pulling off a famous significant victory in only his 10th outing.. Defeat is going to be a bitter pill for Ohara to swallow, quitting was the last thing you'd expect from a man with such boastful ambitions.. It's early in both men's careers, hopefully it's an educational exercise in humility for Davies.
