Fury brushes past Pianeta, sets up potential Wilder fight.
Under the watchful eye of reigning WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury 27-0 (16 Ko’s) returned to the ring for his first meaningful bout since his 2 and a half year hiatus to take on potential banana skin, Francesco Pianeta 35-5-1 (21 Ko’s) at Windsor Park in Belfast tonight.. If his ring return last month was pure comedy, tonight’s approach was all business, with Fury dominating every round to earn an impressive and lopsided decision victory. Pianeta showed little substance once Fury began finding his range, looking decidedly weary as the rounds escalated.. Fury displayed tremendous mobility, along with extreme versatility against an opponent whom had twice challenged for a world championship.. It was the perfect showcase for a serious challenge, and it appears the challenge will more than likely come in the shape of Wilder..
Following the fight Wilder and Fury faced each other and aired their views concerning a possible match, each cordially showing respect for the other. Fury did vocally show the first sign of defiance when he threatened to knock Wilder the F*** out in Las Vegas.. It was pure pantomime as Wilder retaliated with a similar retort.. Both men did explain that with a Joshua fight dead in the water, this meeting was a natural match up and took almost no time for both guys to.. Nothing is signed or set in concrete, but was guaranteed as an almost certainty by promoter Frank Warren, referring to the terms and conditions of the event as mere formalities.. Fury and Wilder reached over and touched hands in a show of mutual respect before leaving the ring..
