Caleb Truax pulls out of Peter Quillin rematch.

Former IBF super middleweight Champion Caleb Truax has pulled out from his August 31st rematch against fellow former middleweight belt holder Peter Quillin due to a recurring Achilles injury. The rematch appeared a natural following their first bout last April which unfortunately ended in a no-decision after Truax was cut as a result of an accidental head clash..
According to Calebs physician Dr. Paul Schaefer of Health Partners Stillwater Medical Group, Truax has a high-grade, partial-thickness tear of the Achilles tendon on his right side..
Truax initially sustained the Achilles injury in March, and the nature of the high-grade tear required surgery and non-operative management as best options.
Truax elected to avoid going under the knife, and spent six weeks in a boot, before undergoing physical therapy, where he was showing signs of significant progression, yet as his workouts intensified, he was concerned about the strength of the tendon before resuming sparring.
Dr Schaefer gave his opinion that Truax will not be properly rehabilitated and conditioned in time for the scheduled fight.. His concerns were that he would put his personal safety at risk in engaging in combat too soon.
Truax prides himself on the fact that he trains through injuries, pushing on regardless, but knows that long term this approach can prove foolish, athletes know their bodies and should respect that with significant rest..
“I’m disappointed because this was a huge opportunity to take a big step toward regaining my IBF super middleweight title,” he adds. “I’m disappointed for all my fans because I wanted to put on a great show for them at The Armory, but I didn’t want to go into this fight, not being able to perform at a level that people are used to seeing from me and also performing at a level so I can defeat a world-class fighter like Peter Quillin.”

Truax is currently reevaluating his future options, which includes possible surgery, but wanted to openly inform all parties of his situation as soon as possible. Promoter Tony Grygelko once again made it clear that the health and well-being of Caleb Truax is the highest priority of all concerned..
