At the weigh in for tomorrow nights supposed WBA Super Welterweight title fight between Cuban Erislandy Lara and Ramon Alvarez, proceedings never went according to plan.. Lara made the weight comfortably at 153.8, whilst Alvarez showed up over an hour late and unprofessionally weighed in a whopping 4 and a half pounds over the weight limit.. As a result, the bout will commence as scheduled, but the WBA championship will only be on the line for Lara with a draw or an Alvarez victory resulting in the title remaining vacant.. The opportunity at the WBA championship should have been an honour for a fighter, frankly for a fighter as limited as Ramon, it’s shocking that a professional athlete being offered such a huge chance couldn’t have the devotion to meet his single weight obligation..
