Anthony Joshua regains titles in Saudi Arabia.
Six months after surrendering his titles to Andy Ruiz, Anthony Joshua 23-1 (21 KOs) took hold of his WBA, IBF, and WBO titles tonight with a crafty display of boxing to outmanoeuvre the 283 pound Andy Ruiz Jr 33-2 (22 KOs) over twelve rounds at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. Joshua controlled the tempo of the action, dictating the pattern of the early rounds, cutting the champions left eye early.. Joshua himself sustained an eye injury in the second from the only real close quarters encounter of the fight.. Ruiz took chances to attempt to close the distance throughout but was out hustled on every occasion, leaving the American increasingly desperate as the rounds wore on.. Ruiz had one final last stand in the 9th but failed to replicate anything close to his performance in June.. Joshua regained the titles by scores of 118-110, 118-110, 119-109.
