Deontay Wilder returns with 7th round stoppage over Ty Herndon.

In his highly anticipated return to the ring, former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder 43-4-1 (42 Ko’s) took 7 rounds to shake off rust, soften up and eventually stop the game Tyrrell Anthony Herndon 24-5 (15 Ko’s) in Wichita Kansas on Friday evening. Wilder dropped Herndon in the second and sixth rounds before finishing his overmatched opponent with 2 chopping right hands in the 7th, Ray Corona calling a halt at 2.16 of the session. The fact that the fight went 7 rounds is a positive one in regard to Wilders wishes to climb back to the highest level, a quick knockout wouldn’t have served any purpose in this project and the more time Wilder is active under the lights will prime him as a live fighter who still has a number of options. Wilder recently split ways with Malik Scott as head trainer but maintains Don House in charge of his preparations. Wilder hadn’t fought in 12 months since the shocking knockout loss to Zhilei Zhang in Saudi Arabia.
