Shannon Briggs finally gets O2 Opponent.
The ever self promoting heavyweight Shannon Briggs has had a week of uncertainty surrounding his opponent on the David Haye v Arnold Gjergjaj card in London on Saturday.. Initially the 44 year old former heavyweight champion was scheduled to face tough former contender Alex Dimitrenko (38/2) but as the week went on word surfaced that Dimitrenko had pulled out and midweek a new opponent was found, Jakov Gospic (17/14) a journeyman with a mixed record... Friday morning news was out that a further replacement had been found, 34 year old Argentinian Emilio Zarate (20/16/3) Briggs has remained unbeaten in 8 since losing his 3rd world title unsuccessful title challenge, against Vitali Klitschko in 2010.. Zarate has been busy, but has only beaten 2 noted opponents, Fabio Moli and George Arias.. Zarate has recently lost to both Hughie Fury and Arnold Gjergjaj..
David Haye scaled 224lbs at the weigh in while Swiss opponent Gjergjaj scaled 237lbs..
Florida based Briggs weighed 250lbs.
Zarate never arrived in the country in time to weigh in.
