Mike Perez returns June 10th at Cruiserweight.
On 10th June at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast Ireland, adopted local heavyweight contender Mike Perez returns to the ring for the first time in 2 years, this time as a cruiserweight.. Perez 21/2/1 (13 Knockouts) last boxed in 2015, losing by knockout to former WBA champion Alex Povetkin in a single round.. since then the Cuban born puncher has re-evaluated his career and sliced off 30 pounds to resurface as a 190 pound threat.. Originally Perez was sketched in to face fellow Irishman Tommy McCarthy 9/1 (5 Ko's) on the Lee Haskins v Ryan Burnett IBF championship card, yet as of late an opponent has not been officially announced.. In 2013 prior to his Ill fated bout with tough Magomed Abdusalamov, Perez looked destined for the top with an unblemished 20/0 (12 Ko's) record, Perez had already shown flashes of promise when he grabbed first place in the 2011 UK Prizefighter series a year earlier, thrusting his name onto mainstream media radar. However a 2014 draw with Carlos Takam and a split decision loss to former title challenger Bryant Jennings slowed the Cubans momentum, before his highest profile bout to date with Povetkin a year later. Perez is 31 years old yet still has ambitions at the highest level, the move to Cruiserweight prime evidence in that case.. Next weeks return represents mere baby steps into unknown territory.. a successful run of wins could edge him towards the head of a class guarded by accomplished champions.. Perez fell short at heavy, but could provide us with some much needed interest this time around..
