Charles Martin stops Michael Marrone in 1.

Former IBF world heavyweight title holder Charles Martin (25-1-1, 23 KOs) stopped an inept Mike Marrone (21-8, 15 KOs) in the opener on Tuesday night at the Rapides Coliseum in Alexandria, Louisiana. This was Martin’s second appearance since losing the world title to Anthony Joshua. Martin who himself appeared a little fleshy set up a crafty temple shot early in the round with the jab, dropping Mike almost through the ropes, several moments later Charles caught a woefully out of shape Marrone with a short left hook to the body that closed the show.. Its a shame to see Marrone in such a dire spectacle, back in 2007 he was being considered a promising future prospect with an impressive 18-0 record, before losing to name fighters Davarryll Williamson, Guillermo Jones and more recently Shannon Briggs.. Martin continues to work his way back into contention, but looks highly unlikely to step towards an opponent of any note anytime soon.
