Dirrell meets Benavides in September for vacant WBC title.
The Vacant WBC SuperMiddleweight title will now be contested for in a match between Anthony Dirrell (30-1-1, 24 Ko's) and David Benavidez (18-0, 17 Ko's) most likely on September 9th with no venue yet announced.. Former champion Dirrell lost his title to Badou Jack in 2014 and is coming off a knockout victory over Norbert Nemesapati last January, while the 20 year old undefeated Benavidez is coming off an 8 round Ko of Rogelio Medina to earn his shot.. Dirrell was originally scheduled to meet British prospect Callum Smith for the vacant title until Smith opted to enter the WBSS tournament where he's due to face Swede Erik Skoglund on September 16th.. incidentally, Dirrell will be contesting for his old belt after his predecessor Badou Jack vacated the title to climb up to light heavyweight..
