Garcia shuts out Broner in Brooklyn.
A month ago when the fight was announced between 4 weight champion Adrien Broner and current Belt-holder returning from a two and a half year hiatus, Mikey Garcia, the oddsmakers posted Garcia as a huge favourite, enraging Broner and thus adding interest to the intriguing bout.. It appeared that the oddsmakers got it right.. last night in front of 12,084 fans at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Garcia (37-0, 30 KO’s) dominated Adrien Broner over twelve energetic rounds, winning a unanimous decision that almost appeared generous to Broner at 117-111 and 116-112 (twice)
After a couple of tentative, range finding rounds, Garcia settled into a rhythm and began out-landing Broner (33-3, 24 KO’s) throughout the majority of the contest..
Broner possibly edged the opening round on workrate, but would not be allowed to win another session for 9 consecutive rounds on my card, giving Broner the 10th as barely a token consolation in a discouraging experience for the Cincinnati man. To be fair, both guys fought well, it was just Garcia's class and volume of clever punching that shut Broner out of the contest.. Adrien piled on the pressure towards the conclusion of the fight, bloodying Mikey's nose, but failing to subdue the relentless Californian who on this night was flawless..
