Kownacki outhustles Martin in Brooklyn.

In a fabulous fan friendly bout, Brooklyn based Adam Kownacki beat former IBF champion Charles Martin by unanimous decision at the Barclays Centre tonight..  The undefeated Pole started fast and out-hustled the shockingly sedate Martin over the first 3 sessions, Adam literally walking through the flicking Southpaw Martin jab, frustrating the Las Vegas based heavyweight with a deceptively high workrate..  Just when it appeared that the Kownacki pressure was getting to Charles, he found his groove, boxing more assertively, landing a series of straight lefts behind the jab, extinguishing much of Adams relentless tempo..  By round 6 both guys were scoring successfully with clusters of shots, Martin now opting to stand on the inside to crowd Kownacki's leverage..  Adam did shake Martin up briefly but proceeded to walk onto a heavy leather in the process..  Kownacki did slow considerably by the ninth and allowed Martin to make up ground, hurting the Pole with single shots whilst ponderously walking in..   The 10th and final round was a showstopper, midway into the session Kownacki found himself in serious trouble, on the receiving end of a snappy combination that visibly shook the portly fighter badly, Martin seized the opportunity, with a repertoire of clean unanswered head shots looking moments away from turning the fight around..  With a minute left in the round Kownacki sprung to life with a volley of stiff head shots to stun Martin in return, causing the former champion to cling for life on the ropes. Both men continued to exchange leather until the final bell in a round that was worth its weight in gold..   Although competitive, the bout always appeared to be bossed by the busier Kownacki, but an honourable mention has to go to Charles Martin, for immense courage, responding with the fortitude that we once doubted of him..   Scores were 96/94 across the board unanimously..
