Finally, two weeks after the collapse of the heavyweight championship fight between Champion, Anthony Joshua and would be challenger Jarrell Miller, it appears that we have an agreed replacement.. Andy Ruiz will once again challenge for the title, fresh off a victory last weekend in California over Alexander Dimitrenko.. The once beaten Ruiz challenged for the vacant WBO title two years ago in New Zealand, losing a split decision over Joseph Parker, that many thought Ruiz would have been granted on home soil.. If we were to take Ruiz purely on appearance alone, we’d have wrote him off long ago, yet beneath his soft body and mild demeanour lies a vicious puncher with very good mobility, and the type of style that makes for an interesting night on June 2nd.. Millers exit from the original scheduled bout ignited a frenzy amongst connected managers and promoters to provide an attractive replacement on such short notice.. The Original favourite looked to be Michael Hunter Jr, but with the contrasting style difference from that of Anthony’s original opponent, they edged towards a final three, being Luis Ortiz, Trevor Bryant and Andy Ruiz.. Joshua favoured the dangerous Ortiz, but in a miscommunication between the Cuban and his management, a substantial offer was refused, leaving the Florida based Bryant and Ruiz in the running.. Bryant, promoted by Don King and trained by Stacy McKinley looked to be tailor made for the job, tall, undefeated, American, and well conditioned.. Yet following late negotiations, Eddie Hearn and team Joshua came to the agreement that with all things considered, Ruiz is exactly what they require for AJ’s US debut.. The rest of the Madison Square Garden Card is still not yet finalised and with ticket sales on hold, pending news of the replacement, the promotion has been far from ideal..
Joshua v Ruiz will be broadcast on DAZN in the US and Sky Sports Box office in the United Kingdom..
