Lomachenko outguns brave Crolla in 4.
WBA & WBO lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko 13-1 (10 KOs) outclassed mandatory challenger Anthony Crolla (34-7-3, 13 KOs) before stopping him with a crisp right hook in the 4th round of a dominant performance last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The end came when Lomachenko popped a clinical right hand just above the challengers ear, causing the Manchester man to pitch forward face first, forcing referee Jack Reiss to call it off at 0:58 of the session..
Lomachenko boxed patiently, using the opener to find the measure of the defensively minded challenger, before adopting his offensive repertoire midway into the second.. Crolla didn’t appear to show any real sign of ambition, as Lomachenko completely overwhelmed him with speed and accuracy.. Towards the end of the third Vasiliy began to close in, pinning Crolla on the ropes and drilling him with a succession of unanswered punches, Jack Reiss jumped between the fighters, leaving viewers thinking he’d called a stoppage, but as the champion celebrated on the ringpost, it became apparent that he’d only administered an 8 count, as officials had to be quickly moved out of the ring.. The count however, only delayed the inevitable as Lomachenko wasted no time in resuming the onslaught, outgunning the overmatched Crolla in the next session..
The display by Lomachenko was ruthless and very impressive, following the fight, the champion made it clear that wants the Mikey Garcia fight next..
