Undefeateds, Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois, agree to meet for the vacant British title.
Undefeated Olympic silver medalist Joe Joyce 8-0 (8 Ko’s) has agreed to meet fellow unbeaten prospect, Daniel Dubois 10-0 (9 Ko’s) for the vacant coveted British heavyweight championship, in a fight that when originally ordered by the British Boxing Board of control looked unlikely to happen.. The matchup comes extremely early in both men’s careers, but in rolling the dice it shows how committed and confident both guys are in their respective abilities.. It was 28 years ago last month since possibly the last comparable British heavyweight title dual between undefeated prospects, when Gary Mason defended his title against the up and coming Olympic champion Lennox Lewis in 1991.. The Olympian came through on that occasion in a brutal fight that spring boarded Lewis towards his first world championship.. Dubois is a well balanced, physical boxer puncher who has been stepped steadily up until now, his spectacular knockout filled career possibly lacks rounds, While arguably the more athletic Joyce has taken a risky path of stepping slightly more hastily towards a higher level of competition, due to his age, stopping former WBC champion Bermane Stiverne in 6 as recent as February.. Both guys are completely different fighters, Joyce looks to be a durable risk taker, while the 12 year younger Dubois appears to be the more calculated technician... No Venue or date has been set in stone, although Frank Warren does have July 13th earmarked for such an event... Daniel still has business next Saturday to attend to when he meets 14-1 Richard Lartey, a 6 foot 5 Ghanaian at Wembley..
