Hughie Fury to face Alexander Povetkin in London August 31st.
Former British heavyweight champion Hughie Fury 23-2 (13 Ko’s) will meet the experienced former WBA champion Alexander Povetkin 34-2 (24 Ko’s ) at The O2 in London on August 31 as a chief support to the upcoming lightweight world title showdown between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Luke Campbell. The 24-year-old Fury previously challenged Joseph Parker for his WBO title 2 years ago and more recently lost on points to Kubrat Pulev in an IBF eliminatior last year.. Hughie recently stopped an ageing Samuel Peter in a bad tempered affair in Saudi Arabia..
2004 Olympic champion Povetkin gallantly challenged Anthony Joshua last year for a handful of the heavyweight marbles, being stopped in 7.. Povetkin did hold his WBA belt for the best part of 2 years between 2011 and 2013, eventually losing the title in a unification bout with Wladimir Klitschko.. The bout is interesting considering the timing of the meeting.. Povetkin approaching the latter years of his long career, whilst the still youthful Fury continues to move amongst a decent pedigree off opposition having experienced a lot for his years.. Fury is a frustrating technician for anyone to fight, and Povetkin will have to bring a spirited showing if he’s to subdue Fury impressively..
