In the latest instalment in the development of undefeated Saginaw heavyweight Jermaine Franklin 19-0 (13,Ko’s), saw him take on tough southpaw Jerry Forrest 25-3 (19 Ko’s) in part of a ShoBox The New Generation Card at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma Washington on Friday night.. The bout proved a highly entertaining affair, with both fighters laying it on the line, yet the highly touted Franklin failed to display the tools that have brought him to prominence.. The bout sprung to life at the end of the opener, with both guys trading relentlessly from close range. Once Jermaine began to use his jab, he maintained control of the action.. Forrest kept his hand in the action with some crafty counters, yet the pace appeared to favour Franklin by the half way mark.. The action did seem to sway back and forth going into the later sessions, with Forrest having some great success with solid left hands as he closed the distance.. The final round saw both guys letting it all hang out as the opinions at ringside appeared split as to which way the points verdict would go.. Jermaine did look the more composed throughout with the more prominent work overall..
One ringside judge did favour Forrest at 96-95 with the other two seeing it for Franklin at 97-93, moving the unbeaten prospect to his nineteenth win via an unimpressive split decision.
