Billy joe Saunders rescues poor US debut with an 11th round stoppage of tough Marcelo Coceres.
WBO World Super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders 29-0 (14 KOs) concluded a largely unimpressive US debut with an eleventh round knockout over previously undefeated Marcelo Coceres 28-0-1 (15 KOs) on Saturdays Staples Center card in Los Angeles. Coceres provided Saunders with a tougher than expected ten rounds where the British fighter for the most part looked out of sorts... With a minute left in the penultimate round Saunders redeemed the performance with an impressive burst to start the land slide of three knockdowns before a brutal uppercut forced the stoppage of Coceres at 1:59 of the round..
Despite the lacklustre performance it appears that Billy Joe may be muted to fight Saul Alvarez on a Cinco de Mayo Card next year.
