Saul Alvarez becomes 4 weight champion, demolishes Sergey Kovalev in 11.

Three division champion, WBC franchise and WBA middle and Super middleweight title holder Saul Alvarez 53-1-2 (36 KOs) picked up a fourth divisional world championship last night by knocking out WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev 34-4-1 (29 KOs) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The bout was largely a technical affair with neither man committing to the bigger shots until later in the fight.. Canelo played a patient game by continually countering anything Kovalev initiated.. It became evident by round 10 that Alvarez was wearing Sergey down with precise body shots and short explosive bursts... Alvarez finally found his measure in the 11th, staggering the taller man with a crisp left hook, before closing the show with a short right hand, that left Kovalev motionless sat against the ropes.. Referee Russell Mora halted the action at 2:15 of the session.. at the time of the stoppage, the judges scores were 96-94 twice for Canelo and 95-95 even on the third..
