Daniel Dubois picks up the British heavyweight title with impressive stoppage of Nathan Gorman in London.
In a highly anticipated fight for the vacant British heavyweight championship, unbeaten youngsters Daniel Dubois 12-0 (11 KOs) wore down the dangerous Nathan Gorman 16-1 (11 Ko’s) before scoring an impressive knockout in the 5th on Saturday night at the O2 in London.. Dubois cut Gorman in round 2 before dropping him in the third with a fast combination set up with a stiff right hand.. Gorman fought bravely but failed to beat the count after being dropped again at 2:41 of the 5th.
2016 Olympic silver medalist Joe Joyce 10-0 (9 KOs) took another steady step up in class on the undercard to take a competent 12 round unanimous decision over Philadelphian former world title challenger Bryant Jennings 24-4 (14 KOs). Joe set a steady methodical pace and stick to his task.. Jennings fought in spirited spells with the more flashy work, yet failed to match Joyce’s workrate... Joe was warned several times throughout for leaning on with the shoulder, whilst Jennings was deducted a point in the tenth for repeated low blows.. Joyce is effective and strong but gets hit a little too frequently for my liking.. At 33 he has to move fast.. Jennings appeared disappointed with the wide scoring at the conclusion, yet can’t honestly argue with the result.. Scores were 118-108, 117-110, 115-110..
