Parker v Fury rescheduled to Manchester Uk.

Hennessy Sports and Duco Promotions, representatives of both Joseph Parker and Hughie Fury, have today announced that the long awaited WBO heavyweight title fight between the two has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 23 at the Manchester Arena, Uk. Fury pulled out of the original Auckland date in May with a severe back injury, which has since healed.. Hughie is due to box a tuneup on July 8th at the Copper Box Arena in London, but following that he's raring to go.. Parker is equally excited at the prospect of defending his title in Britain, of which he refers to as the current home of heavyweight boxing, following recent success with Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury..
Parker, 23/0 18 Ko's last defended his title in May when he outpointed Razvan Cojanu over 12.. Hughie who is currently 20/0 10 Ko's last boxed 16 months ago winning a technical decision over Fred Kassi following a cut eye..

Smith jr viewing Barrera victory as springboard to the title.

27 year Old Long Island light heavyweight contender Joe Smith Jr. (23-1, 19 KOs) played host to New York City's media on Tuesday at the Mendez Boxing Gym ahead of his upcoming 10-round clash with the rugged Sullivan Barrera (19-1, 14 KOs) set for July 15 at The Forum in Los Angeles, California, televised live on HBO's Boxing After Dark.
Smith Jr looks forward to continuing his successful run of upset victories in 2016 by making a bold statement against the usually stubborn Barrera with a view to a future title fight with WBC champion Adonis Stevenson in mind.. Joe weathered an early storm to stop two time title challenger Andrej Fonfara last June, then pulled off another shocker by hustling Bernard Hopkins out of the ring in December in what was advertised as Hopkins leaving party, pulling the unlikely second shocker.. The grounded Union worker is overwhelmed by his newly found celebrity, but still insists that once his fight is over, his focus will be directed to his job, insisting that his loyalty is only balanced by the tremendous support his fellow workers have given to his ring career.

Charlo, Washington and Miller added to Broner v Garcia Brooklyn card.

The upcoming July 29th Showtime card featuring Adrien Broner v Mikey Garcia has a couple of additions to its schedule.. Former title holder Jermall Charlo will face tough Jorge Sebastian Heiland of Argentina on a portion of the card televised by PBC, while former WBC heavyweight title challenger Gerald Washington (18-1-1, 12 Ko's) and undefeated Jarrell 'Big Baby' Miller (18-0-1, 16 Ko's) will square off in a 10round heavyweight attraction as part of the Showtime telecast..
The Barclays Centre show is headlined by a 12-round super lightweight showdown between four-division world champion Adrien Broner and unbeaten three-division champion Mikey Garcia.

Dirrell v Smith WBC title clash looks likely for October in Flint Mich.

The WBC SuperMiddleweight championship clash between Anthony Dirrell (30-1-1, 24 Ko's) and Callum Smith (22-0, 17 Ko's) has been shifted to a new date in late October and will most probably take place in Dirrells home town of Flint Michigan. The fight was originally muted for September 9th in California, and although the date change looks likely, no details or undercard has been verified. Smith and Dirrell are boxing for the title that Badou Jack vacated back in March following his controversial draw with IBF champion James Degale.. TGB Promotions, a company that is closely linked to Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Chamionships did win the purse bid with a bid of 1.6 Million US-Dollars. Smith’s last outing was an impressive TKO win over Luke Blackledge for the British title in December, while Dirrell stopped Hungary’s Norbert Nemesapati back in January. Anthony is a previous holder of this belt.

Many rival promoters did catch the breeze of Dychko's arrival but it looks cut and dry that the trio will secure a deal with the fighters development interests in mind..

After Kovalev.. What's next for Andre Ward.?

Following the fallout from last weekends remarkable stoppage of the seemingly invincible Sergei Kovalev many different scenarios have transpired.. Predictably John David Jackson was removed as trainer of Kovalev, with rumours of the former champion stepping up to cruiserweight to further his career, along with even more outrageous rumours surrounding Ward leaping into an unthinkable superfight with IBF and WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, a rumour than many consider as mostly tongue in cheek.. The conclusion of the Ward v Kovalev fight did appear slightly dissatisfying, not necessarily the result, but the unconvincing way experienced referee Tony Weeks allowed border line shots to hustle Kovalev to the canvas before bringing such an important bout to a premature halt mid flow.. Facts are that Ward was finding his mark with legal body shots, visibly damaging the Russian, whilst intelligently setting himself to try finish the job. Had Weeks not intervened at his inopportune moment of choice, the likelihood is that we would have seen Ward complete the job in its entirety, without a shadow of controversy..  Luckily for boxing, those knowledgable enough could decipher for themselves what they had witnessed.. JD Jackson and Don Turner both offered huge praise for the way Ward meticulously out hustled their fighter, honest words from those closest to the notoriously stubborn Kovalev, who in their opinion just boxed his own predictable fight.. The obvious match for Ward now is a 175lb unification bout with Stevenson, following his recent rematch stoppage of Andrej Fonfara, although a very winnable fight with WBC Cruiserweight champion in recess Tony Bellew may land on the table..

Deontay Wilder arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has been arrested and charged with possession of Marijuana, following a stop in Alabama.
Alabama's Tuscaloosa Police department stated that Deontay was initially pulled over while driving for a 'window tint violation'.
Officers said it was then, following a random search that they found drugs inside the vehicle.
Wilder's attorney, Paul Patterson, told The Tuscaloosa news that the drugs in the vehicle did not belong to Wilder and that the vehicle had been driven by an associate while the boxer was away.
"Deontay has been out-of-state for several days, he returned home today from Georgia driving his Rolls Royce and selected his Cadillac Escalade from his fleet of vehicles to run errands."
Wilder was charged by police and released on a £780 ($1,000) bond.
Officers obtained verbal consent to search the vehicle and recovered a misdemeanour amount of the substance (marijuana) from the console,"
Wilder's last fight was a fifth round stoppage of the previously defeated Gerald Washington defending his WBC title for the 5th time since winning the belt in 2015.
Drugs have featured quite prevalently in the current heavyweight landscape.. Former unified Champion Tyson Fury made it publicly known last year that he was seeking help for a cocaine problem, former WBA champion Alexander Povetkin twice failed substance testing for the drug Meldonium, along with random test failures from Lucas Browne and Shannon Briggs.. IBF and WBA champion Anthony Joshua looks the only remaining player not to appear on this list, regardless of his past convictions for supplying drugs going back to 2011..

Burnett claims IBF Bantamweight title in Belfast.

Undefeated bantamweight challenger Ryan Burnett (16-0, 9 KOs) seized the IBF world title from reigning IBF champion Lee Haskins (34-4, 14 KOs) winning a dominant 12 round decision, that was outrageously announced as a split verdict on Saturday night in front of his home countrymen at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Burnett fought an intelligent fight, starting fast and out-hustling Haskins, who was barely allowed to get a foothold in the contest.. Burnett scored knockdowns in round six and eleven, yet had to overcome a deep cut between his eyes from round 2 onwards.. Haskins looked spent following the second knockdown and was unable to use his right, relying on wild left hooks for the remainder of the action.. Scores were predictably 119-107, 119-107 for Burnett, although an outrageous 118-108 card for Haskins was marked by judge Clark Sammartino of the United States, who looks to have confused the fighters with alternate points scoring..

Chief Support on the Belfast show was the cruiserweight debut of former heavyweight contender Mike Perez, 21-2-1 (13 Ko's) The 31 year old Cuban took less than 20 seconds to annihilate Viktor Biscak 10-0 (7 Ko's) of Slovakia, who appeared to injure his ankle following a knockdown.. Perez looked a different person, a renewed dedication obvious by his ripped physique.. It would have been a little more revealing to see a few rounds of Perez at the new weight, the mismatch was unfortunate and the unveiling anticlimactic.. Regardless, Mike Perez still appears a threat in either division.

Mike Perez returns June 10th at Cruiserweight.

On 10th June at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast Ireland, adopted local heavyweight contender Mike Perez returns to the ring for the first time in 2 years, this time as a cruiserweight.. Perez 21/2/1 (13 Knockouts) last boxed in 2015, losing by knockout to former WBA champion Alex Povetkin in a single round.. since then the Cuban born puncher has re-evaluated his career and sliced off 30 pounds to resurface as a 190 pound threat.. Originally Perez was sketched in to face fellow Irishman Tommy McCarthy 9/1 (5 Ko's) on the Lee Haskins v Ryan Burnett IBF championship card, yet as of late an opponent has not been officially announced.. In 2013 prior to his Ill fated bout with tough Magomed Abdusalamov, Perez looked destined for the top with an unblemished 20/0 (12 Ko's) record, Perez had already shown flashes of promise when he grabbed first place in the 2011 UK Prizefighter series a year earlier, thrusting his name onto mainstream media radar. However a 2014 draw with Carlos Takam and a split decision loss to former title challenger Bryant Jennings slowed the Cubans momentum, before his highest profile bout to date with Povetkin a year later. Perez is 31 years old yet still has ambitions at the highest level, the move to Cruiserweight prime evidence in that case.. Next weeks return represents mere baby steps into unknown territory.. a successful run of wins could edge him towards the head of a class guarded by accomplished champions.. Perez fell short at heavy, but could provide us with some much needed interest this time around..
