Alvarez edges Golovkin in long awaited rematch..
Almost exactly a year to the day since their first meeting Saul Alvarez 50-1-2 (34 Ko’s) and Gennady Golovkin 38-0-1 (34 Ko’s) met once again on Saturday night in Las Vegas in the long awaited rematch of their controversial epic split draw.. The bout that was initially scheduled for Cinco de Mayo weekend, didn’t disappoint, both guys bringing their A game with all but one of the 160 pound marbles on the table..
Once again the fight proved hugely contentious with divided opinions, after Alvarez was awarded the decision by the slimmest of Majority verdicts...
scores were 114-114, 115-113, 115-113.. Golovkin must feel hard done to with this his first defeat after appearing to many to have won the first meeting..
On the Undercard former champion David Lemieux 40-4 (34 Ko’s) Montreal Canada, demolished the colourful Irish Spike ‘O Sullivan 28-2 (20 Ko’s) in the opener with a huge hook.. Lemieux, a former Golovkin victim looks highly likely to be in the near future of Canelo Alvarez having previously faced both Golovkin and Saunders.. But I’ve no doubt a Golovkin v Alvarez third fight could take precedence..
