Erislandy Lara, eager to seek Canelo revenge.

35 year old former WBA Super Welterweight Champion Erislandy Lara 25-3-2 (14 Ko’s) voiced his opinions concerning Saturdays unification fight between a Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez, with huge enthusiasm to step up and box the winner, whom he lost to in a controversial split decision back in 2014.. Lara went on to beat Ishe Smith in his very next bout to pick up the WBA super title, then make 5 successful defences before his gallant split loss last year to the now champion Jarrett Hurd.. Lara says he will face either man and isn’t afraid to make the jump to 160, but is very excited at the prospect at having revenge over Alvarez, a man that he feels he has already beaten.. Lara’s first loss was a Majority decision defeat back in 2011 to former welterweight champion Paul Williams, but since then has only came up second by split verdicts, something that a man of Lara’s character finds hard to deal with.. The Cuban was a huge favourite to take Olympic gold in 2008, but decided a year prior to defect, whilst boxing in the pan Am Games, unfortunately his first attempt was scuppered by Brazilian authorities and he was forced to return to Cuba, banned from resuming his chosen sport.. However Lara mounted a second defection effort, this time travelling by speedboat to Mexico, before travelling to Hamburg Germany to join fellow Cuban National Olandier Solis as part of the Arena Boxing Stable.. These days Lara is based in Houston Texas and is trained by Ronnie Shields..
