Jesse Vargas overpowers tough Humberto Soto in 6..
In an action packed affair, former double world champ Jesse Vargas 29-2-2 (11 Ko’s) knocked out former three time world title holder, Humberto Soto 69-10-2 (38 Ko’s) with a vicious cluster of shots at 1:48 of round 6, in a scheduled 151 pound 10 rounder.. In a highly watchable bout, Soto touched down as early as the first from what appeared to be a low blow.. Shortly after, a nasty cut opened above Vargas’ left eye, courtesy of a headbutt.. Vargas maintained his composure and seemed to be doing enough to win the majority of the bout, yet Soto continued to bore in with the head, making it uncomfortable viewing.. In the 6th Vargas landed a clinical right cross, dropping Soto momentarily, when the action resumed, Vargas moved in, landing a crisp combination that once again floored Humberto, forcing the referee to halt the contest.. There were no complaints from the Soto contingent, as the stoppage was justified.. despite the spirited showing, Soto looked old in comparison to the younger, sharper Vargas.. Soto looking a shadow of the fighter that upset Brandon Rios only 8 weeks ago..
